Whistler Gravel Fondo (Indian River)

Start location: Vancouver

Ride Type: One Way

Date Ridden: August 2023

Distance: 127 km

Elevation: 2,325 m

Surface: Mostly gravel

Note: Indian arm FSR is closed indefinitely for the Woodfibre gas pipeline construction. Expected to stay closed until 2027. See further notes below.

Why do this ride: A classic and epic gravel alternative to the road event.

Difficulty: Very hard. Indian River FSR from top of Indian Arm to Squamish is as rough as they get. The Sea 2 Sky Trail from Squamish to Whistler is moderately hard when done on fresh legs but on sapped legs its a lot harder. Of course this route can just be split into two rides as a saner alternative (look for Squamish Sea to Sky on these pages).

Other notes:  If you are going to put down a couple hundred dollars to ride to Whistler it should be for a Deep Cove water taxi not a mass start road event. For Woodfibre pipeline construction project updates, see here: https://talkingenergy.ca/project/eagle-mountain-woodfibre-gas-pipeline-project
